Home inspection report requirements

Legal requirements paraphrased from Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act - Home Inspector Licensing Regulation - bclaws.gov.bc.ca, 2009

  1. The report must:

    a) Be in writing;

    b) Set out an opinion on the condition of each of the items outlined in the the contract;

    c) Recommend that the client obtain expert advice where necessary;

    d) Specify what’s not covered by the home inspection;

  2. The report must include:

a) the client’s name and address;

b) the licensee's name and, if different, the name under which the licensee carries on business;

c) the licensee's business address and, if different, the licensee's mailing address;

d) the licensee's licence number, telephone number and, if applicable, fax number and email address;

e) the address of the property inspected;

f) the date of the home inspection.

3. The licensee must provide a copy of the home inspection report to the client on or before the date specified in the home inspection contract.
