We’ve compiled a comprehensive list of providers of home insurance in our area. The items on the Insurance Summary page in your home inspection report are based on some of the common questions these insurance providers ask our clients.

The above is a list of insurers in our area, displayed in alphabetical order; we don’t rank or endorse any of these insurance companies over any others.

Of course, it’s always a great idea to ask around: friends and neighbours, do your research, and find the best property insurance to protect your unique investment.

Some common questions your insurance provider may ask about the home:

  • What is the age of the roof?

  • What type of heating does the home have?

  • How old is the furnace?

  • How old is the hot water tank (water heater)?

  • What kind of plumbing does the home have? They may be wondering whether there is Poly-B or Kitec piping, which can be an obstacle.

  • What type of electrical wiring does the home have? They may be wondering about the presence of aluminum wiring which is less desirable.

  • Are smoke and carbon monoxide detectors present?

  • Is a backflow prevention device installed?

  • Does the home have any fireplaces or wood burning appliances?

  • Have any wood burning fireplaces or stoves been WETT inspected?

  • Does the home have a security system installed?

  • Does the home have a pool?

  • Is your home on a septic system?

  • Does your home have a private water supply, eg. well water?

  • Does your home have a sump pump/drain pump/extractor pump?

  • Is there a business, farm, or licensed daycare operating at the home?

  • Does the home have a (legal) suite?

  • How far away is the nearest fire hydrant?

When looking to buy a home, we always recommend obtaining, or confirming that you will able to obtain home insurance for the property you’re interested in purchasing, prior to subject removal. Your real estate agent may be able to provide you with suggestions and guidance in this regard.
